At this point, James Franco can only be described as James Franco-esque: he writes books, writes reviews, does art installations and occasionally does some movies—both in front of and behind the camera. You may remember that back in 2011 Franco was circling an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s iconic novel “Blood Meridian” and shot some test footage as a proof-of-concept to get the rights to the novel. Now, in advance of the release of Franco’s adaptation of a different McCarthy novel “Child of God,” the actor-cum-director (among other things) has released that test reel for all to see.

The test sequence lasts nearly a half hour and stars Scott Glenn, Luke Perry as Tobin and Glanton, respectively, alongside Mark Pellegrino as the Judge and Dave Franco. The test centers on the portion of the novel where “Tobin recounts how the Glanton gang met the Judge.” And, writing for Vice, Franco is honest about the difficulty of the endeavor. “In some ways ‘Blood’ seems un-filmable. It is almost Biblical in its prose. His terse prose utilizes vocabulary only found in the crannies of annals of the Old West and the specialized spheres of working men. He captures the slang of forgotten peoples so deftly, it’s as if they were his barroom friends,” he said.

While we can see what Franco was trying to achieve, I’m not too sold on his take on the notoriously un-filmable novel. Maybe we can get Ridley Scott back into the mix? Watch Franco’s test footage for “Blood Meridian” below.

Your part in 22 Jump Street is pretty unforgettable… Yes. I can confidently say that it’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever done on film-and I’ve done a lot of strange things.

Your Funny or Die videos are a riot. What cracks you up? Christopher Mintz-Plasse- no one makes me laugh harder than he does. Also, my two enormous cats. They are 17-pound tabbies who love to spoon. There’s a lot of cat incest going on in my house.

If you were on Tinder, what would your tagline be? “I go to sleep every night with 34 pounds of cat on top of me.” That would probably scare off 90 percent of the Tinder community, but for the 10 percent that embraces it, I’ve got nothing to hide from there.

Would you ever date one of James’s exes? No, It’s a lose-lose situtation. Either I’m dating the girl he used to date and it ends up horrible, or it ends up great, we get married, and then have awkwardness for the rest of our lives when James is around.

Can we talk about dick pics-have you ever sent one? I don’t think I’ve ever sent a full-on dick pic. Maybe a bulge pic? Like pressing up against those jeans. But never full-skin, graphic, close-up dick pic. I don’t think any girl wants to see that! Bulge pics are the new black.

James Franco has found the man to play actor Greg Sestero in his forthcoming adaptation of Sestero‘s 2013 book The Disaster Artist, which details the author’s involvement in the cult film The Room. Not that Franco had to look very far: According to 3 News, Franco’s brother Dave attended a Los Angeles screening of The Room over the weekend and, during a Q&A with the film’s mercurial writer-director-star Tommy Wiseau, asked him, “How do you feel about me playing Greg Sestero in the movie?” Wiseau responded by declaring, “That’s what I say: It’s a good choice.” James Franco seemed to confirm the casting news when he tweeted a photograph of Wiseau with his brother, which you can see above.

It was announced last February that James Franco would direct an adaptation of The Disaster Artist. Franco’s production company Rabbit Bandini is producing the film in cahoots with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey Productions. In May, Rogen said that James Franco “might” play Wiseau himself.

The Room was originally released in 2003. Over the past decade, it has become beloved as a so-bad-it’s-hilarious cult classic. In a review of The Disaster Artist which James Franco wrote for VICE, the Oz the Great and Powerful star described Wiseau as “a lonely little boy who wants love. He, like so many people with stars in their eyes, sees film not only as a medium of expression, but the gate to acceptance. It is the place where his work will find like-minded people who will learn to love him through his work, not only because of it. This is the hope of most artists, and the book turns Tommy’s sometimes ridiculous struggle into a paradigm for those wishing to be creative in a world where it is usually too hard to be. In so many ways, Tommy c’est moi.”
